World Prematurity Day
On November 17, we celebrate World Prematurity Day – a special day to honor all the incredible children who arrived a bit earlier than expected. It’s a celebration that holds importance not only on this day but every day!
Baby Clothes in Size 44 for My Girls
Twenty years ago, on November 20, my husband and I suddenly found ourselves in need of the tiniest baby clothes. Our twin girls made their entrance into the world five weeks early. We had a hunch they might arrive ahead of schedule, as twins often do, and I secretly hoped they would – carrying two was quite the load! This was my second pregnancy, following my son’s birth 3½ years earlier, and it was completely different. I never imagined having twins since neither my husband’s family nor mine had a history of them.
A Surprise for Me
Being a second-time mom, I felt relaxed and experienced, so I went to my midwife appointment alone – but that calmness quickly turned to surprise when baby number two was discovered! Calling my husband to share the news that we were expecting twins was unforgettable. Then, on the day our girls finally arrived, life took another big, wonderful turn. They were tiny and delicate, especially compared to their big brother, who was 57 cm long and weighed 3,950 grams at birth – he skipped right past all sizes below 62! The girls were doing well initially, and I felt like a superhero, but after three days, they began losing weight and needed feeding tubes. One of them dropped below 2 kg, and my superhero feeling turned to worry. Those ten days in the hospital felt endless, but thankfully, they soon turned a corner, and we were able to bring them home.
The early days at home are a bit of a blur – managing feedings, naps, and trying to find a rhythm amid the chaos. It’s a feeling that comes and goes in family life… 😉
Clothing for Premature Babies
Back then, all the clothes we’d prepared were far too big for our girls, and options for premature baby clothing were extremely limited. That’s why it felt so natural to create beautiful MarMar Copenhagen clothing in the tiniest sizes. We began with our popular modal fabric, made from organic GOTS-certified cotton and Lenzing Tencel, featuring classic, practical styles starting at size 44. These clothes are easy to put on and take off, even for the smallest babies.
Since then, our newborn collection has grown to include charming prints and delicate pointelle pieces down to size 44, all crafted in soft, high-quality fabrics.
Supporting Neonatal Wards
Over the past few years, we at MarMar Copenhagen have proudly donated clothing to neonatal wards across Denmark, bringing us immense joy to support families in need during such a precious time.
Welcome to the world, little ones, and happy World Prematurity Day to all!
Warm regards,
Marlene, Owner and Creative Director of MarMar Copenhagen
