The story behind our alpaca knit

At MarMar Copenhagen, we cherish true craftsmanship – and the stories that come with it. Every garment carries more than the yarn it is made of; it carries the care, experience, and culture of the people who created it.

This is why we are proud of our collaboration with the Aymara women of the Andes. With techniques passed down through generations, they combine tradition and skill in every piece they knit.

A Collaboration Rooted in Respect
Each garment is handcrafted within their own homes, allowing the women to integrate their craft with daily life. With every stitch, their knowledge and experience take form – and no two pieces are ever the same. Each knit is the result of patience, dedication, and hands that know their craft.

More Than Just a Garment
Wearing one of these knits means carrying a piece shaped by many years of experience and careful making. It is more than fashion; it is an expression of heritage, individuality, and the lasting value of things made with care.

About alpaca yarn
Alpaca yarn is valued for its softness, warmth, and durability. It is a fiber with long traditions in the region – chosen not because it is a trend, but because it has always been part of the way of making. The yarn comes from alpacas kept in the women’s own households and communities in the Andes. It is cared for, spun, and transformed into garments through techniques passed down for generations.
